So, They're Learning

Homework Thursday night was unmitigated torture. My big one won't focus. My blood pressure is up right now thinking of it. I can't write about this. Erg. Grr. I wanted to cry and cry, my older kid writing one letter or even a whole word maybe, then goofing off with his pencil or twisting his fingers or looking all around. It took 45 minutes to get one single sentence down. In desperation I called his father, who calmed me down some, but we were so late getting to bed that all three of us were fussy the next day. Horrible, horrible.

The big surprise is that his brother, the baby, isn't a baby anymore. I gave him his homework, and he hopped right to it. He cuts well and he pays attention. I was just amazed. One of his assignments involved altering a story and drawing a picture of the new storyline. He did really well.

Moomie is really turned on by the idea of teaching his little brother, so maybe that's the angle I'll use on him, that as soon as he's finished with his homework, he can go over flash cards with Boober, who badly needs to catch up on letter recognition.

He also needs lots of practice writing. Lots. They did numbers in school the other day, and his were unrecognizable. He takes lots of liberties, too, with the order of letters in his name, and even the locations of the letters.
