People have always told me that "let's just be friends" means "I don't ever want to see you again." I realize that in some places, among some people, that's just fine. I've always made it a point to try never to get entangled with these people. Because for me it doesn't mean that. If I pledge my friendship, it's there until you discard it.

But once you discard me, once you spit on me and shit on me with enough repetition that it finally sinks in to my reptilian brain that hey there might be a pattern here, you're cut off. Because then you've shown me what being friends really means to you, and I'll have none of it.
