God Bless You (or I Love Where I Live Part IV)
I didn't mention that while riding my bike yesterday,
I sneezed
violently. It nearly startled me off my seat to hear
someone off to my
right bless me. Turned out there were folks on the
porch of one of the
big old houses that are all over my neighborhood, just
hanging around
outside, enjoying the weather. Most places I've lived
these last few
years, nobody hangs around outside unless they are
doing yard work or
washing their car. Or it's Halloween. People hang
out all over my
town. They ride bikes, walk around, meet and greet,
and attend the
Tuesday night free summer concerts that are still
going on, even though
the schedule says the concert series was officially
over a month ago.
I just had a look at one of the two free papers
everyone gets (well
four if you count the high school newsletter).
There's lotsa folksy
stuff going on, dances and craft fairs and spaghetti
suppers and the
like, sponsored by the VFW and the Single Parent's
Club and various
senior organizations.
Honestly, sooner or later I will knock off all the
I Love Where I
Live stuff. It's hard not to gush at first, though,
ya know?
