Activism

It feels good to get involved.  I'm getting involved in quite a few things just now, since I have a bit more time and a lot more interest.
One of the top is the "Fuck Work" campaign at Unamerican Activities.  I know I have a damn fine job.  I'm truly blessed to have it, and if I can help more people have jobs as good as mine, it would be a really life-affirming thing.  Everyone has the right to exercise their full potential, to see their ideas realized, to feel useful, important and appreciated, to contribute in a way that really makes them feel special, not bulldozed.  If this sounds incongruent with the concept of "fuck work,"  please go read the manifesto and see what I mean.
Another is the Active Worlds Reunion.  Now, I don't do much AW anymore, I just drop in on occasion, but I do care very much about the people, about the community.  There are four locations for the Reunion this year: Ottawa, Canada; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA; Brussels, Belgium; and Sydney, Australia.  I had planned to go to Ottawa and to help on the planning committee, but the planning committee just ceased to exist, for complex reasons, so I have taken the reins on this Reunion.  This will mean lots of time and effort, mostly over the springtime, when the soda business is flowering, but it's important to me.  It will get done.
I heard today about somebody I know who needs a hand.  I've only met Snuffy13 a few times, but understand he is well regarded in the community.  If you know him, or even if you don't, take a look at what needs to be done and consider helping.  See, this is the kind of thing that really steeps my faith in the online community.  People give a damn.  They do, regardless of distance or age or whatever.

Yesterday I discovered the Geek Code.  Yes, it took me this long; some geek I am!  Anyway, this is fun to play with and I like it a lot better than that Myers-Briggs thingy (Keirsey Web Version).  Geek Coding is not very pigeon-holing, as you can add modifiers onto everything to approximate your stand on various subjects, unlike Myers-Briggs, where you are for or against with nothing in between or outside the choices.  Thanks to rcr203 for the revelation.
Geez, that enough links for ya?
