Hey is this thing on?
Howdy cute friends. This is James from Unamerican Activities. Guess
what? Srini has been working day and night for weeks to totally redesign
the website and now he's so exhausted that he can't even stand up.
It's
sorta cute, him all curled up in a ball on the floor in pain. But,
I
digress. Please come look at our all new website-It's truly
mind-numbing. http://www.unamerican.com
Oh yeah!!! We have lots of new
sections and new products for sale, if you're the purchasin' type.
Also, believe it or not, Unamerican Activities has been nominated for
a
Webby award-we say WHATEVER-we don't need an award to know we're rad,
but we sorta want to win anyways. So, please vote for us (Before
February 5-so hurry!) http://www.webbyawards.com/peoples/register.phtml
Another thing, if you didn't know-we can now take credit cards and if
you want to order on-line, it's all ready to go with a secure old server
and all that. If you want to order by phone, that's OK too-it's toll
free. 888 742-5590-be nice!
Also, I'm trying to put together a zine for our humble little company,
so if you want to write something for it, (i.e. write about "What it
means to be "Unamerican") then mail it (don't email it) to us.
OK, you know what to do-and if you are looking for an address, it's

also, very importantly, I'm asking all of our conspirators to please
help out Gilman street, the punk club in Berkeley where we used to
sell
our stuff at all the time. Read below. The on-line petition is a piece
of cake and it's very important. Please take a little time, and if
possible, write a letter.
Gilman, the granddaddy of all-ages volunteer non-profit punk clubs,
is
under immediate threat of having its permit revoked. An electronics
manufacturer in the area, which has coexisted with Gilman
for over a decade, has suddenly gone on a crusade to shut Gilman down.
They've even got city officials trying to coax other nearby companies
into turning against Gilman. The cops have gone so far as to stake
out
the club, videotaping everyone who goes in and out.
Sometime, in the next few weeks, the Berkeley Zoning Committee will
meet
to discuss the possibility of revoking Gilman's permit. Last time
profit-making entities tried to oust Gilman, it was an open hearing
allowing for the committee to see and hear the overwhelming support
in
favor of Gilman. This time it's not an open hearing and so Gilman is
asking for people to sign a petition in support of the club.
More info, legal documents, and local media articles as well as the
web
petition can be found at http://www.gilman.org/sos/
. Spread the word to
anyone you think might be interested (you don't have
to live in the Bay Area to sign the petition).
