Yankee Doodle Sunday
Church was fun today. It's always good but it was fun today, as well, all patriotic and lively. The Navesink ensemble, using recorders and other primitive woodwinds, performed most of the music, really moving music, and the talks were about democracy and love of our country, and the songs for the congregation to sing were "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "She's a Grand Old Flag." At the end of the service we contra danced! Rather badly, true, since most of us had never done this before, but how fun! It helped me break some physical barriers, since some hand holding is required for the dance. It was a really warm experience, literally, too. The community room where we had "coffee" hour was pretty hot, and I didn't stay long.
